Thierry Facon, MD, of Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) Lille, discusses the various treatment options for patients with multiple myeloma.

Multiple myeloma is a rare blood cancer characterized by malignant plasma cell growth in the bone marrow.

Stem cell transplantation is a common treatment for multiple myeloma but in the elderly, that may not be an option. As treatment options continue to develop for these patients, one option may be an all oral therapy, such as ixazomib in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone, that was shown to have some clinically meaningful outcomes.
