Transcription:

My name is Christine Eng. I am a pediatrician and a medical geneticist. I’ve been in this field for over 30 years, mostly in the diagnostic lab space. Using my clinical background and my research background to bring basically the advances in genetic technology back to patients in the form of diagnostic options. At Baylor Genetics, which is a clinical diagnostic lab, I’m Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer. I also have a faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine. I’m a professor. I’m also Vice Chair of the Department for Diagnostic Affairs.

At Baylor Genetics and at Baylor College of Medicine, one of our focuses through the years really has been rare diseases. This was really the founding principle of our department at the medical school. Caring for patients with rare diseases, but also looking for the cause of their disease. So, gene discovery, as well as diagnostic options, as well as understanding the path of physiology of these conditions, and ultimately how we might approach them through treatment.

That’s the work of the college, and specifically the work of Baylor Genetics, is to take those genetic technology advances and to bring them directly to physicians and patients by developing innovative genetic testing. That’s really our passion, and that’s what we’ve been known for over the past 45 years.
