Brothers Jordi and Jaume Duran created the documentary “Fighting the Rare,” which showcases the many battles involved in conducting research, raising families, finding treatments, and raising awareness about a rare disease. The rare disease this documentary focused on is Lafora disease.
Lafora disease is a rare neurodegenerative condition caused by glycogen accumulation in cells, especially in astrocytes. It often begins in adolescence with epileptic seizures but progresses rapidly with severe neurodegeneration.
