Wendy Chung, MD, PhD, clinical geneticist at Columbia University Medical School explains what inspires her and many clinical researchers focused on rare disease – patient groups.

As Dr. Chung explains in this video, patients, their families, and patient groups are the key drivers to advancing clinical research as well as providing key insights into what clinical outcome measures are relevant to their condition.

Dr. Chung has had the privilege of working with numerous patient groups in her career and is currently collaborating with the KIF1a organization to better understand the pathophysiology of KIF1a associated neurological disorder (KAND), a rare progressive neurological disorder due to a mutation in the KIF1A gene.
