Matheus Wilke of the Hospital de Clinicas de Porta Alegre in Brazil, explains the origins of their booklet to educate children about enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) during the Covid-19 pandemic.
As Mr. Wilke explains, the pandemic resulted in new safety measures that had to be put in place for patients receiving ERTs. To help educate young patients, they developed a booklet with a beloved Brazilian character named Beto.
The booklet was based on a therapeutic decision flowchart for patients with lysosomal storage disease during Covid-19 that was developed by the Brazilian Society of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
