Michael Hayden, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of Prilenia Therapeutics, describes the disheartening impact a diagnosis of Huntington disease can have on a family.
Huntington disease is an inherited, neurodegenerative disorder. If a parent has the condition, each child will have a 50% chance of developing the disease. And watching a parent rapidly decline in motor and cognitive abilities while also showing signs of psychiatric and behavioral disturbances and be very jarring to the family, including the children who know the disease may also impact them later when they reach their 40s.
Dr. Hayden, since his early neurological research days in South Africa, has dedicated his life to finding a treatment for this devastating condition.
